Cakewalk® Announces Intel “Superstars” 2011 Music Competition Winner
-Soulful singer/songwriter Austin Renfroe named the 2nd Annual Intel “Superstars” Competition grand prizewinner. Lands $10,000 prize in competition with more than 3,000 songs submitted and over 171,000 votes cast.-
Boston, MA (January 19, 2012) — Cakewalk, the world's leading developer of powerful and easy to use products for music creation and recording, Intel Corporation, and the preeminent online community-powered, new music discovery site, OurStage.com, announce the grand prize winner of the Intel Superstars 2011 Music Competition.
In just 45 days of competition, 3,294 songs were submitted across six musical genre categories, generating over 171,000 fan votes. The Intel “Superstars” 2011 Music Competition winner is Austin Renfroe with his song "Taking Me Under.”
The $10,000 cash grand prize will be awarded January 19th at the National Association of Music Merchants (NAMM) convention in the Orange Amplifier booth 4890, Hall C in Anaheim, CA. Selection of the grand prizewinner was determined by an esteemed panel of judges including David Boxenbaum (GM, A&M, Octone Records), Jason Flom (President, Lava Records / Universal Music Group), Jake Ottmann (VP, Creative, East Coast - EMI Music Publishing), Mike Rivet (Intel Corporation), Jimmy Landry (Artist Relations, Cakewalk, former A&R: Elektra, Virgin, Capitol Records), Bruce Tyler (former Exec. VP of Sony Music and Columbia Records) and Kristin Bredimus (VP of Community & Content, OurStage.com).

The “Intel Superstars 2011” Music Competition launched November 1, 2011 and invited artists to submit original music across six music genres: Rock, Pop, Country, Singer/Songwriter, Urban, and Latin. All submissions were ranked by fans through OurStage’s patented judging technology. The Top 20 ranked artists in each genre-based competition advanced to the 2nd round of judging that ran December 1st through December 15th 2011 - which determined the Top 10 ranked Grand Prize Finalists. The panel of industry experts selected the Grand Prize Winner based on the following criteria: (i) presentation; (ii) originality and creativity; (iii) melody, vocal ability and music; (iv) lyrics; and (v) entertainment value.

Prize packages totaled more than $35,000 - awarded to the First Place winners in each genre, including Intel® Core™ i7 processor-based Orange Amplification OPC’s, Cakewalk SONAR X1 Production Suite Software, Gibson Guitars, Blue Microphone’s Yeti Pro USB microphone. In addition, one lucky fan – that participated in judging artist submissions - received a Gibson USA Firebird X Guitar, courtesy of Gibson Guitars. The $10,000 in cash Grand Prize will be awarded at 1 PM, January 19, 2012 at Orange Amplifier booth 4890, Hall C followed by a live performance from Grand Prize winner Austin Renfroe.
