You're getting more than just SONAR 7 when you upgrade SONAR 7 Producer Edition is the ultimate production and music creation environment built on Cakewalk's experience of over 20 years of creating music software. In 2000, our flagship program, SONAR, was rolled out to rave reviews. With every new version SONAR adds more groundbreaking features, new instruments and effects, interface refinements, and more. In fact, when you upgrade to SONAR 7 from SONAR 1 for example, you're adding 7 years worth of exciting new features! Looking at the "new features" list for SONAR 7 Producer Edition doesn't always tell the whole story—read on to see what else you get when you upgrade today. Added in SONAR 2 SONAR 2 refined many of the innovative features introduced in SONAR 1. This update brought extended compatibility into the picture along with many virtual instrument related refinements and essential project management tools. ReWire support added the capability to easily interface with other 3rd party audio applications like Reason or Project5. The Synth Rack was introduced, giving users an easy way to manage their virtual instrument plug-ins from one window. Multiple output support for virtual instruments allowed for a new generation of multitimbral synths, while the new custom MIDI drum mapping features made interfacing with hardware and software instruments easier than ever before. And who could forget the awesome loop-rearrainging capabilities of Cyclone DXi—it's still a secret weapon in many soft synth arsenals.
SONAR 3 Among SONAR 3's many interface and workflow improvements, Cakewalk introduced a brand new Console view and enhanced bussing known as Universal Bus Architecture. With Universal Bus Architecture, you have an unlimited number of sends and busses at your disposal and nearly limitless routing capabilities. Mixing large projects is easier than ever before. Producer Edition also added the Lexicon Pantheon reverb, a per channel EQ and the brilliant Sonitus:fx Suite (which is now available in both Studio and Producer Edition). And let's not forget VST support, which allows SONAR users to incorporate a wider variety of effects and instruments into their mixes.
SONAR 4 For virtually every user, it's the innovative editing tools introduced in SONAR 4 that will make your day-to-day work much, much easier. Easily comp together multiple takes of audio and MIDI with track layers and the new mute tool. Track folders allow you to group multiple tracks, including audio, MIDI, and instrument tracks for better organization and editing. The navigator view allows you to see an overview of even the most massive projects in once glance. Freeze instruments and effects for easy editing and to reduce the strain on your CPU. For professionals, SONAR 4 Producer Edition added true surround busses to SONAR's mix engine and over 30 surround formats for professional surround mixing. Not to mention we included great surround effects and SurroundBridge, which lets you use even stereo and mono plug-ins as surround plug-ins! Composers and broadcasters rely on the Video Thumbnail Pane and the ability to export video in multiple formats. POW-r Dithering was also introduced in SONAR 4 Producer Edition, which helps keeps the quality of your audio spotless when you render down to 16-bit for CD delivery.
SONAR 5 introduced an industry first: a 64-bit double precision audio engine, providing greater headroom than typical 32 bit audio engines. Clip-based effects allow you to process individual snippets of audio easily. Track Icons make it simpler to organize even the largest, most cluttered projects. Edit MIDI parts directly from the Track View with the convenience of inline MIDI editing. SONAR 5 Producer Edition introduced exclusives like Roland V-Vocal, the pitch correction and editing tool that makes vocal fixes painless. Perfect Space Convolution Reverb accurately recreates the ambience of natural room sounds, hardware and more. And let's not forget the assortment of awesome instruments including RXP REX player and Pentagon I, the monster analog-style synth designed by Rene Ceballos.
