Rapture Sound Design 101 - Creating a "Sequence" Program

Loading a Wavetable, Element 1

Step 1. Loading a Wavetable, Element 1

  1. Load a fresh instance of Rapture and select E1 (Element 1)
  2. Click here to open the wavetable browser and select "000 — sine.wav"
  3. Set Transpose to '-12'
  4. Set Multi to '7v' (multiplies the sine wave 7 times)
  5. Set Detune to '20' (fattens up the sound)

Step 2. Loading a Wavetable, Element 2

  1. Select E2 and choose as its waveform "151 — rainstick.wav"
  2. Activate the DSP section by clickin on the text that reads Bypass
  3. Choose 'LP 2P' as the first filter
  4. Set Cutoff to ~179 Hz
  5. Set Resonance to ~30dB

Create Amplitude curve for E1

Step 3. Create Amplitude curve for E1

  1. Now select E1 again
  2. In the Modulators section, select AMP and set Status to 'On'
  3. Right-click at the top of the graph at approximately the 100 ms mark
  4. Press 'S' -- this sets a Sustain point for Amplitude, indicated by the orange vertical line emanating from the Node
  5. Right-click in the bottom right of the graph to establish a release segment

Create a rhythmic pitch sequence for E1

Step 4. Create a rhythmic pitch sequence for E1

  1. Select E1 and select Pitch in the Modulators section
  2. Set Pitch Step Generator Status to 'On'
  3. Set Smooth to '31' (this causes the pitch to glide from one to the next)
  4. Set Depth to '2400' (this sets the max range to 2 octaves in pitch)
  5. Right click on the Step Sequence grid and select 'Snap to 12 steps'
  6. Create a 16 step pitch sequence as pictured (values are 100%, 50% and 0%)

Create Amplitude curve for E1

Step 5. Create a rhythmic filter sequence for E2

  1. Select E2 and Cut1 in the Modulators section
  2. Set the Cut1 Step Generator's Status to 'On'
  3. Set Smooth to '31'
  4. Right click on the Step Sequence grid and select 'Randomize Steps'

Add Stereo Delay effect to E2

Step 6. Add Stereo Delay effect to E2

  1. Select E2
  2. Click the effects type menu and select 'Stereo Delay'
  3. Set Left (left delay) to '1/2d beats'
  4. Set Right (right delay) to '1d beats'
  5. Set Feedb (Feedback) to ~50%
  6. Set Dry/Wet to 50%
