Installing Drivers in Windows
95/98
Please contact the manufacturer of your
multimedia device for specific information about Windows drivers, configuration,
and compatibility.
How to Install a Driver if Windows 95/98
Includes a Driver for your Multimedia Device
- Click on the Start Button, and select
Settings | Control Panel.
- In the Control Panel select the icon
for Add New Hardware.
- In the Add New Hardware Wizard click
on the Next button.
- Select No when the Add New Hardware
Wizard asks you "Do you want Windows to search for your new hardware?"
- From the list of Hardware types choose
Sound, video and game controllers, and click on the Next button.
- Select the manufacturer and model of
your multimedia device, and click on the Next button.
- Select the Resource settings that match
what the multimedia device is physically set to, and click on the Next
button.
- Click on the Finish button.
- Select Yes to restart your computer.
How to Install a Driver if Windows 95/98
does not Include a Driver for your Multimedia Device
- Click on the Start Button, and select
Settings | Control Panel.
- In the Control Panel select the icon
for Add New Hardware.
- In the Add New Hardware Wizard click
on the Next button.
- Select No when the Add New Hardware
Wizard asks you "Do you want Windows to search for your new hardware?"
- From the list of Hardware types choose
Sound, video and game controllers, and click on the Next button.
- Select Have Disk.
- Insert the manufacturers diskette, specify
the correct drive, (and path, if any i.e., a:\drivers\new ) then click
OK.
- Select the driver from the list, and
click OK.
- Click on the Finish button.
- In the driver Set Up dialog box, select
the hardware settings that match what the multimedia device is physically
set to, and click OK.
- Remove disk from drive, and select Yes
to restart your computer.
How to Verify What Resources a Driver
is Using
- Click on the Start Button, and select
Settings | Control Panel.
- In the Control Panel select the System
icon.
- Select the Device Manager tab.
- From the list of hardware under the
Computer double-click on Sound, video and game controllers. This will
now show the complete list of installed multimedia drivers.
- Highlight the driver you want to verify,
and select the Properties button.
- Select the Resources tab to verify what
settings the multimedia driver is using.
If you need to change IRQ or Port settings,
deselect the "Use automatic settings" box and reconfigure the
driver to use the correct IRQ and Port address.
How to Remove a Driver
- Click on the Start Button, and select
Settings | Control Panel.
- In the Control Panel select the System
icon.
- Select the Device Manager tab.
- From the list of hardware under the
Computer double-click on Sound, video and game controllers. This will
now show the complete list of installed multimedia drivers.
- Highlight the driver you want to remove,
and select the Remove button.
- Restart your computer for the changes
to take effect.
