• Why is the Sysx Receive Button Disabled (greyed-out) in the Sysx View (version 6.0 only)?

The Sysx Receive button is disabled by default. This is done on purpose to prevent you from unintentionally recording lots of Sysx events into Cakewalk. That's because Cakewalk Pro Audio 6 records all incoming Sysx events in real time, whenever Sysx recording is enabled.

To turn on recording of Sysx, choose Options | Global | MIDI, and check the System Exclusive option. Now when you record tracks in Cakewalk, you will record any System Exclusive events that you generate with your MIDI instruments.

Keep in mind that once you enable Sysx recording, Sysx Data and Sysx Bank events will be recorded even if the Sysx view isn't open. You must go to Options | Global | MIDI and uncheck the System Exclusive option if you want to disable Sysx recording.

Sending and receiving Sysx from your MIDI instruments
If you are using Cakewalk to store Sysx Banks from your MIDI instruments, you must also check the System Exclusive option under Options | Global | MIDI. Just remember to disable System Exclusive recording when you are finished receiving the Sysx banks. Otherwise, you may, inadvertently, be recording Sysx into Cakewalk tracks, when all you wanted to do was save the patches or sequences from your MIDI instrument.
