4) Guitar Tracks 2 keeps crashing. What can I do?
If you are receiving crashes in GT2, there may be either corrupted files in Cakewalk,
Windows, or in your soundcard drivers. To resolve the problem, try the following
steps:
1.Please go to Windows Update
and download all of the critical updates.
2.Reinstall your sound card drivers. You should follow any directions the manufacturer
provides on Uninstalling the drivers first. Once they are completely removed, reinstall
the latest drivers for the card. These are available for free on the sound card
manufacturer's website and are often located under the Support or Download section.
3. Delete Initialization files: Choose Start | Find | Files or Folders, and change
the Look In to My Computer. Next type in the two files below, one at a time and
hit Find Now. GT2AUDDX.INI AUD.INI Left Click on the file's icon once to select
it and press delete on your keyboard.
4. Uninstall Cakewalk Next, you should completely un-install Cakewalk from your
computer. This is normally done from Start | Programs | Cakewalk. If Uninstall Cakewalk
is not available to you here, check Control Panels/Add Remove Programs. If Cakewalk
appears in this list, un-install it from here. Make sure nothing else is running while reinstalling GT in step 'e'. In Win 98/ME/XP, choose Start | Run and type
MSCONFIG. Click OK, then click on the Startup tab at the upper right of the window that opens. Uncheck all items listed, click OK, then restart your computer. You
can always recheck those items again at a later time. In Win 2000, click Ctrl+Alt+Del
and manually End Task on the items you don't need running. Restart your computer.
5. Registry Clean Click the Windows Start Button and select Run. At the prompt type
REGEDIT and click OK. Backup your Registry before making edits - you do this by
clicking the Registry menu, Export Registry File. Now delete the following Registry
keys HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Cakewalk Music Software HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Cakewalk
Music Software
6. Reinstall Cakewalk and restart your computer This should eliminate any software
irregularities that are causing your problem, but let us know if it does not.

5) I can't hear previously recorded tracks while recording new ones.
In order to hear previous audio tracks while recording new ones, simply go to Options
| Audio | Advanced and check the box labeled 'enable simultaneous record/playback'.
This is turned on by default. If the box is greyed out or is already checked, then
your sound card either does not support full duplex mode or you need to update your
sound card drivers. Please note that many built-in and OEM soundcards do not support
CD quality full-duplexing.

6) Where do I find the Guitar Tracks 2 manual?
Cakewalk Guitar Tracks 2 doesn't ship with documentation beyond the included quick
start guide. Instead, the manual is reproduced in electronic form, and is available
to you from the Help menu. You can conveniently search by keyword, which makes this
electronic version easier to use than the printed version would be. I'd recommend
you click the Getting Started button in the Quick Start menu that pops up when you
launch Cakewalk (if you don't see it, choose Help | Quick Start). This will run
through the basics of using Cakewalk to record MIDI and audio, as well as other
topics. You can also access help topics by pressing the F1 key at any time.
In addition, we have posted many tips, tricks, and answers to common queries in
the Support section of our website.
There is also a new book called Cakewalk Power by Scott Garrigus. The book is available
from Amazon and covers lessons applicable to
all new Cakewalk software.

7) Slowblast doesn't work on my PC.
Slow Blast is 3rd party software that we bundle with Guitar Tracks. It will not
work properly under Windows 2k or XP. We cannot support this product directly because
we did not write it. Please go to www.slowblast.com for your support
options. Sorry
for the inconvenience.

8) My previously recorded tracks keep bleeding over to new tracks.
This problem isn't Cakewalk specific, but rather is related to your sound card's
mixer settings. The input of your sound card is set to record everything coming out of your outputs. To alleviate this, double click on the speaker icon on the
bottom right corner of your screen (or choose Go to Start | Programs | Accessories
| Entertainment | Volume Control. Then choose Options | Properties | Adjust Volume For Recording, and make sure all boxes below
are checked. Click OK. Now look for
the slider marked What You Hear, Wave or Mixed Input (or something similar), and
UNcheck the box at the bottom marked Select. Make sure you have Line-in or Mic-in
checked instead. Close the window down, then re-record your audio tracks.

GT Pro 2 Issues
9) GT Pro 2 is not working properly under Windows Vista.
GT Pro is not 100% Vista compatible and not officially supported under Vista.
Although some features may work we cannot guarantee it. It may not even install
properly, depending on your system. Only Guitar Tracks 4, Music Creator 4, SONAR
6.2 and higher is supported. You can download the latest SONAR demo
here.
Please call 1-888-CAKEWALK (617-423-9004) or go to the
Cakewalk Store for more information on purchases and upgrades.
Note - It may help to manually launch the program as an administrator. This is done
by right-clicking on either the Desktop shortcut or the program executable and selecting
"Run As Administrator". Also uncheck the advanced display options.

10) I can't find ReValver or any other effects.
You should find the ReValver (along with other FX) under your inserts at the top
of each channel strip. Just left-click on the little arrow next to where it says
"none." The Alien Connections Revalver can be found there. It should now show where
none was, double click on it to bring up the main ReValver window. Press F1 to bring
up the Help menu. You can find a downloadable manual
here.

11) I can't import ACIDized WAV files or files from Fruity Loops.
In order to import and export loops into GT Pro 2 correctly, you'll need
this patch.

12) I can't hear my effect plug-ins while recording.
Unfortunately, GT Pro 2 cannot input monitor through the software. If you
want to use Cakewalk like a real time effects processor you'll need one our products
that are capable of input monitoring. We suggest upgrading to Guitar Tracks Pro
4 or SONAR Home Studio, which have this capability. For more information about upgrading
call 1-888-CAKEWALK or visit our online store.
You can download the latest SONAR demo
here.

13) I can't hear the metronome.
If you cannot hear your metronome while recording in Guitar Tracks Pro 2, try the
following steps;
1) Go to Options | Click. Make sure that the Recording box is checked. If you want
to hear the metronome from your computer case, check 'Use PC Speaker'. If you wish
to hear the metronome from your computer sound card and attached speakers, check
'Use MIDI note'.
2) If you are using your soundcard to play the metronome, you must choose a Port.
You will want to choose an FM Synthesizer, MIDI Synthesizer, or GS Wavetable Synth.
You do not want to use MIDI Mapper, SXG Synth, Virtual Sound Canvas, S/W Synth,
or other software based synthesizers. Also, do not use MIDI Out or MPU-401.
3) If you still cannot hear the Metronome from your soundcard, go to Start
Programs | Accessories | Entertainment | Volume Control. This can also be reached
by double-clicking the small speaker icon next to the clock in Windows. The opening
screen is the monitor/playback level control. Go to Options | Properties and make
sure that everything is checked under 'Show the following Playback Controls'. Click
OK. Make sure that the MIDI/Synth Slider is turned up and not muted. That should
solve any metronome related issues.

14) How do I export files for CD burning?
Before you export your wav files, go to File | Info | Stats. Make sure the settings
are 44.1/16bit. If not you will need to convert it in order to burn an audio CD.
Here's a good tech tip
on file conversion.

15) I can't record at 24bit in GT Pro 2.
GT Pro has problems recording in 24bit using certain WDM drivers. Your best bet
is to download the latest MME drivers (they might be listed as drivers for Win 98/ME)
and delete the GP2AUDDX.INI file in GT Pro program folder.
Another option would be trying out ASIO4ALL.
These drivers are a good solution for generic or OEM sound cards that have unreliable
WDM drivers and/or nonexistent ASIO support. Although you will not have ASIO capability
in GT Pro 2 (only GT Pro 3 and 4) they may show up as MME drivers with 24bit recording
capability. Please call 1-888-CAKEWALK (617-423-9004) or go to the
Cakewalk Store for
more information on purchases and upgrades.

16) My Mix view has dissapeared. How do I get it back?
This is usually a problem with the way GT Pro 2 is reading your driver profile.
In order to reset this, please do the following: Go to My Computer Then C:\Program
Files\Cakewalk\Guitar Tracks Pro 2. Find the files AUD.ini and GP2AudDx.ini (they
may show up as "AUD" and "GP2AUDDX"). Select and delete these files. Reopen GT Pro
2. Your soundcard should be reprofiled, and the mix view should appear properly.

17) I want to use a soft synth for MIDI back up. I have MIDI devices selected,
but how do I record MIDI?
GT Pro 2 and 3 have no MIDI recording capability. They both have the ability to
sync up to certain control surfaces and hard disk recorders using MIDI. This is
why there is an option for MIDI Devices. However, you cannot record or playback
any MIDI data in GT Pro 2 and 3, it is only for synchronization purposes. Nor can
you use VSTi or DXi that require MIDI input. You would be better of upgrading to
GT Pro 4 or SONAR. You can download the latest SONAR demo
here. Please call 1-888-CAKEWALK (617-423-9004) or go to the
Cakewalk Store for
more information on purchases and upgrades.

18) How do I record my fader movements or automation?
GT Pro 2 has no automation recording capabilities. You'll need to create Volume
automation by right-clicking on the waveform in the Edit view, go to Envelopes |
Create > Volume. You can use this to draw your fades or highlight a section of
audio while holding the Alt key, then go to Edit | Fade.

19) I can't find the loops that were supposed to be included with GT Pro 2.
All of the loops are on the GT Pro CD. You should have it in your drive, then in
GT Pro go to View | Loop Explorer or File | Import audio. Now navigate to the CDROM
drive and you'll see all of the loops that you can import. Either double click or
drag and drop them into the project.

20) I can't hear or record any audio. I get an "Audio Driver" error.
Your interface may be accessing the wrong driver mode. Go to Options | Audio | Advanced
and change the Driver Mode to MME or ASIO. Close the program and re-open it. If
that fails, delete the file AUD.INI. It may be easiest to delete the files from
the Windows Search under Start | Search | All Files and Folders. Click to display
the "More Advanced Options" and make sure there is a check in "Search Hidden Files
and Folders". Now change the driver mode back again. Please click the link below
and follow the setup instructions
for your interface.

21) I'm having trouble running GT Pro 3 in Vista.
GT Pro 2 and 3 are not 100% Vista compatible and not officially supported under
Vista. Although some features may work we cannot guarantee it. It may not even install
properly, depending on your system. If you do come across any problems, we won't
be able to help. You'll need to use our

22) I can't find Amplitube LE or my other effects.
You should find Amplitube (along with other FX) under your inserts at the top of
each channel strip. Just right-click on the little blue box below where it says
"Trim." Amplitube can be found there. It should be listed in the box, double click
on it to bring up the main window. Press F1 to bring up the Help menu. You must
have audio highlighted in the Edit view in order to access effects from the Process
menu.

23) I can't figure out how to loop record; the manual say I should be able to.
Unfortunately, that should not have been in the manual. Some of the documentation
from Home Studio made its way into GT Pro3. After you loop record, you'll need to
pull the clips down to different tracks in the Edit view. Hold shift to keep them
in place as you pull them down. Then you can choose your keeper track from there.
We apologize for the inconvenience.

24) My tracks are bleeding over to new ones.
This problem isn't Cakewalk specific, but rather is related to your sound card's
mixer settings. The input of your sound card is set to record everything coming
out of your outputs. To alleviate this, double click on the speaker icon on the
bottom right corner of your screen (or choose Go to Start | Programs | Accessories
| Entertainment | Volume Control. Then choose Options | Properties | Adjust Volume

the activation directly from IK Multimedia.

26) I'm getting a delayed audio signal when I record and input monitor.
Go to Track | click Input Monitor so that there is no check next to it.
The delay is caused when you try to use Input Monitoring with a sound card that
does not have WDM or ASIO drivers available or installed. If you do have WDM drivers,
check out this link for more info on
decreasing latency. For a good list of sound cards recommended by Cakewalk,
check out the AHG. You'll
find all the information you need to make the proper choice for your needs.
If you don't have ASIO drivers, you can try out ASIO4ALL.
These drivers are a good solution for generic or OEM sound cards that have unreliable
WDM drivers and/or nonexistent ASIO support. Once installed open GT Pro 3 and go
to Options | Audio | Advanced and change the Driver mode to ASIO.

27) Why is GT Pro 3 crashing when I audition the EQ or older Cakewalk effects?
That Audition crash has been confirmed as a bug with the older CFX plugins.
It's best to use the Q plugin in realtime, then apply the FX when you have the desired
setting. You should find your realtime FX under your inserts at the top of each
channel strip. Just right-click on the little blue box below where it says "Trim."
It should be listed in the box, double click on it to bring up the main window.
Press F1 to bring up the Help menu. We apologize for the inconvenience.

28) When I recrod a stereo track, why am I only getting one side recorded?
It sounds like you are recording a mono signal through a stereo input. Guitars and
microphones are mono signals. The only time these devices can be stereo is if you
have them going through a stereo FX processor or amp. The Line-in on your sound
card can usually accept stereo and mono inputs, the Mic-in is mono only. Make sure
you don't have a mono adapter going into the Line-in and that you have the Left
side of your sound card (mono) chosen for input in Cakewalk.

29) I can't find any project templates. How do I use them?
Unfortunately, GT Pro3 has no template capability. This was included in the manual
by mistake. Only SONAR and GT Pro 4 have this capability. What you can do is create
a Blank project with all of your settings, then save it as "Normal Template" or
something similar. Open that file first (make a shortcut for it on your Desktop
or Task Bar) then do a File | Save As each time you start a new project.
