Email based Technical Support allows
you to get the answers you need, without the cost of a telephone call.
Send us your questions any time it's convenient for you, and because
you're already on the Internet, email is free.
We answer most questions within 2 business
days. During times of increased volume, and after weekends or holidays,
it may take us a bit longer than usual to answer your questions. Cakewalk
Technical Support offers the best service in the industry so it's worth
the wait.
We will only answer questions that meet
each of the following three requirements.
- Your software must be registered with
us. (see registration help below.)
- You must include your serial number
in each e-mail message.
- You must include your FULL NAME in
each e-mail (just including an E-Mail address or nickname is not enough).
Registration Help
Registering your software is easy. We
offer several methods to make it easier for you:
- Online registration is available here.
- You can mail the registration card
included in your Cakewalk product box. Please
note that many of our current products no longer come with a registration
card. The serial number for these products can be found on a
sticker on the back of the product CD jewel case or cover.
- Call Cakewalk customer service at
1-888-CAKEWALK.
If you don't know your serial number,
you can find it in several places:

Before posting to the
newsgroups, please review these Rules of Conduct:
- Appropriate Language:
The purpose
of the Cakewalk newsgroups is to exchange technical information and
expertise on Cakewalk products. Please avoid personal attacks, slurs,
and profanity in your messages.
- Message Topics:
Please keep
the topic of messages relevant to the subject of the newsgroup. It's
normal for some message topics to drift from the stated subject. However,
to ensure maximum impact and benefit for all involved, please keep
your messages close to the newsgroup's subject.
- Advertising/Solicitation:
The newsgroups
are for assistance on Cakewalk products. Participants are asked to
refrain from posting advertisements or solicitations not pertaining
to the intended use and purpose of the newsgroups.
- Serial Numbers:
Please do
NOT post serial numbers or CD keys in the newsgroups. We do not want
to give people with illegal copies of Cakewalk the ability to register.
- Attachments:
Please refrain from posting large binary attachments to the newsgroups,
as users with slower modems will be negatively affected. Posting small
Cakewalk-related files in order to receive technical assistance with

How
to Get There
The Cakewalk discussion
groups are provided in the form of Internet newsgroups, hosted by a
dedicated Cakewalk newsgroup server.
You can use any newsreader
software to access these newsgroups. Newsreaders are included in both
Internet Explorer and
Netscape (ver 2 or higher). There
are also many stand-alone newsreaders, one such is Agent
- With Microsoft Internet
Mail and News installed, after you click on a newsgroup link, you'll
be prompted for configuration information. When prompted for the News
Server, specify news.cakewalk.com. You do not need to enter
an account name or password.
- If you are using an
NNTP newsreader (sometimes called a news client) other than Internet
Mail and News, don't forget to configure it to read the newsgroups.
The Cakewalk news server name is news.cakewalk.com.
Instructions
For AOL Users
There are some special things AOL users
will need to do in order to access the newsgroups.
- Ensure you have AOL version 3.0 or
higher.
- Download and Install the AOL version
of Netscape. You can access this on AOL via the keyword, "Netscape."
- Sign on to AOL, (minimize AOL, do
not signoff), run the Netscape Navigator for AOL.
- Return to this page and click on the
links above, or manually type in the URL.
Can't
see new messages?
We recently moved the
newsgroups to a new server. If you do not see any new messages in the
groups you will need to reset the message counters in your news reader
client. The exact steps will vary depending on what news reader you're
using.
To reset the message
counters in Outlook Express:
- Launch Outlook Express
and select Tools | Options.
- Select the Maintenance
tab.
- Click the Clean
Up Now button.
- Click the Reset
button.
- Click Yes.
If you're using another
news reader please check the documentation that came with it for information
on how to reset the message counters.
