Meter Frame Size

The information in this article applies to:

  • SONAR 3 and up
  • SONAR Home Studio (All Versions)
  • SONAR LE (All Versions)

Meters in SONAR show peak (or RMS) values at a given instant in time. The actual peak value displayed by a meter is the highest peak recorded in an interval of times referred to as a "Meter Frame". The default size for a meter frame is 40 milliseconds, which is an accuracy of 25 FPS. The 'MeterFrameSizeMS' AUD.INI variable allows you to change the size of this interval. It goes in the [Wave] section of AUD.INI for example:

[Wave]
MeterFrameSizeMS=40

Setting this value to a lower value will make the meters record peak info smaller time slices. However this can also increase the metering CPU and Memory cost.

Although SONAR doesn't enforce a fixed value range, the recommended range should be between 10 and 200 milliseconds.
