SONAR Technical Support

Control Surfaces In SONAR 2

New for SONAR 2 is support for the CM Labs MotorMix and Tascam US-428 external control surfaces. SONAR 2 also includes a simple, generic software interface you can configure to connect many other brands of control surfaces, as well as continuing support for the Roland U-8 and Peavey StudioMix.

What is a Control Surface?

A control surface will allow you to control most aspects of SONAR 2 externally. Anything that you would use a mouse for in SONAR 2 can be controlled by the control surface. A control surface will provide real-time, hands-on control of your mix, automation, effects, and more.

Why use a Control Surface?

Control surfaces provide hands-on mixing capabilities. Control surfaces like the Tascam US-428 and CM Labs Motormix will allow you to control the transport, faders, mutes, solos, pans, record automation and more. Some users prefer the feel of real faders and controls, as opposed to using the mouse. If you are one of these people, than an external control surface may be for you.

What Control Surfaces will work with SONAR 2?

SONAR 2 includes preset support for the CM Labs MotorMix, Tascam US-428. The Tascam US-224 uses the US-428 preset. There are also presets from within the Generic Surface plug in for the Event Ezbus, Kenton Control Freak, JL Cooper FaderMaster, Peavey PC-1600, and the Roland MCR-8. Additional controller support will be made available as a free download from the Cakewalk web site for registered SONAR 2 customers.
