Realtek Audio setup for the SONAR X Series

  1. Click Edit > Preferences
  2. Under the Audio section on the left, click on Playback and Recording
  3. From the 'Driver Mode' dropdown select MME-32 bit and then click Apply
  4. If prompted with the message "Wave Profiler - We must now perform a series of tests", click Yes. When the test is complete click Close in the Wave Profiler window.
  5. Under the Audio section on the left, click on on Devices
  6. Make sure your Realtek card is selected under both inputs and outputs.  Deselect any other drivers that may be in the list. If you make any changes, click Apply.
  7. Under the Audio section on the left, click on Driver Settings
  8. Make sure one of your Realtek drivers is selected as 'Playback Timing Master'. It is best to select the output that you have speakers or headphones connected to.
  9. Click Apply and then OK
  10. Finally, all audio playback will occur from the Realtek device. Make sure you have your speakers or headphones connected to its outputs

Please note: Realtekaudio cards are generally provided with your computer. They are designed for general media playback and, though they will work with Cakewalk software, you would get better performance using a device designed specifically for audio recording.

Realtek Audio Interface setup for Music Creator 6

  1. Click Edit > Preferences
  2. Under the Audio section on the left, click on Devices
  3. From the 'Driver Mode' dropdown select MME-32 bit and then click Apply
  4. Make sure one of your Realtek drivers is selected as 'Playback Device'. It is best to select the output that you have speakers or headphones connected to.
  5. Make sure one of your Realtek drivers is selected as 'Recording Device'. It is best to select the input that you have your microphone connected to.
  6. Click Apply and then OK
  7. Finally, all audio playback will occur from the Realtek device. Make sure you have your speakers or headphones connected to its outputs

Realtek Audio setup for all other Cakewalk software

  1. Click Options > Audio > Advanced
  2. From the 'Driver Mode' selector choose MME-32 bit
  3. If you do not see Driver Mode, make sure the box next to “Always use mme interface” is checked.  Click OK and if prompted, restart the program
  4. Upon restart if prompted allow the Wave Profiler to test your hardware
  5. Next, click Options > Audio:
    1. On the Drivers tab, make sure your Realtek device is selected under both inputs and outputs. If changes are made, click OK and if prompted restart the program
    2. On the general tab, make sure one of your Realtek drivers is selected as 'Playback Timing Master. It is best to choose an output that you have speakers or headphones connected to. Click OK if prompted, restart. Allow Wave Profiler to test your hardware upon relaunch if prompted
  6. Go to Options > MIDI devices You should now see “Microsoft GS Wavetable SW synth” as an option under outputs. Select this device and click OK
