• Maximize Effects Processing With Aux Busses

This tip is for users of SONAR, Cakewalk Pro Audio, Cakewalk Club Tracks, Cakewalk Guitar Tracks, Cakewalk Guitar Tracks Pro, Cakewalk Guitar Studio, Cakewalk Home Studio, and Cakewalk Professional. Have you ever tried to apply an effect to a number of audio tracks but your CPU couldn’t handle the workload? On some machines adding a second or third effect may make your  CPU Usage meter jump up to 90%, or even cause a dropout. You could upgrade your processor, but not everyone can spend $300 on a CPU/motherboard upgrade. Here’s a workaround that will help you maximize your use of audio plug-ins.

Aux buses are useful for mixing together different audio tracks (in stereo) and applying effects to the mix. You can mix the tracks at different volume levels by adjusting each track's aux send level.

You control the aux bus as follows in the console view of your Cakewalk program. In SONAR, you can also control the aux buses in the track view:

    To do this...

    Set the output level

    Adjust the Return level

    Set the output panning

    Adjust the Return balance

    Select the output

Click the Output button and choose one from the list

As with Audio strips, the Value box in the toolbar displays the send and return levels in decibels and the send and return balance values on a scale of 100%L to 100%R.
